The Andhra Pradesh government unveiled a Rs 2.94 lakh crore budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year, with Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav declaring it a move to restart the state's financial engine. Key allocations include Rs 29,909 crore for education and Rs 18,421 crore for healthcare.
Despite an expected revenue deficit of Rs 34,743 crore and a fiscal deficit of Rs 68,743 crore, Keshav proposed strategies to create wealth and enhance the state's financial position. The budget supports urban development, energy transition, and water policy, aiming to stimulate sustainable growth.
Opposition voices, notably former finance minister B Rajendranath, criticized the delayed budget presentation and the large public debt. The government also faced scrutiny over limited allocation for welfare schemes promised during the elections.
