Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang unveiled a Rs 16,196 crore budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year before the state assembly, emphasizing youth empowerment, farmer support, infrastructure growth, and fiscal responsibility.
The budget features Rs 11,028 crore in revenue expenditure and Rs 5,168 crore in capital outlay, with central tax devolution to the state projected at Rs 5,519 crore and additional grants of Rs 2,600 crore. The state aims to raise Rs 2,076 crore in tax revenue and Rs 1,007 crore in non-tax revenue, while borrowing Rs 2,651 crore.
Chief Minister Tamang reiterated the government's focus on sustainable development and social welfare, highlighting strategic investments across sectors to boost the economy and enhance citizens' quality of life. Challenges due to the state's unique geography and climate vulnerabilities are acknowledged, with a roadmap for resilience and sustainable progress.
