In a significant milestone for India-Guinea relations, 150 indigenously-built locomotives are set for export to the Republic of Guinea. These advanced machines, featuring amenities such as air-conditioned cabins, refrigerators, and microwaves, will significantly enhance the comfort of personnel operating in challenging West African climates.
The export, scheduled over the next three years, will be flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Wabtec, a global locomotive manufacturer, is at the helm of this initiative, collaborating with Indian Railways at the Marhowra Rail Factory near Patna to deliver customized locomotives tailored to Guinea's specific needs.
This order complements Guinea's largest iron ore mining project, necessitating enhanced freight capabilities. It represents a meaningful step in fostering India-Africa economic cooperation while positioning India's Marhowra factory as a strategic hub for global locomotive exports.
