Russia's national airline, Aeroflot, was thrust into chaos due to a crippling cyberattack leading to the cancellation of dozens of flights. The airline experienced widespread disruptions as departure boards at Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport went red, affecting domestic and international flights during a peak travel period.
The situation caught the attention of the Kremlin, prompting a criminal inquiry. The hack, claimed by Silent Crow and Cyberpartisans BY, has raised concerns over the growing cyber threat facing large companies in Russia. Authorities are yet to confirm the full extent of the cyber breach which allegedly compromised 7,000 servers.
With passengers stranded and angry, the hacker group's threat to release sensitive personal data has added to the turmoil. Aeroflot has assured affected passengers of refunds or rebookings within 10 days, amidst the ongoing operational challenges exacerbated by western sanctions restricting travel routes.
