The Spanish airport operator, Aena, announced plans to invest 12.88 billion euros in upgrading its terminals between 2027 and 2031. This investment is driven by the need for expansion at Madrid and Barcelona airports, which are nearing capacity. Previous investments amounted to 3.54 billion euros.
Spanish airport operator Aena has revealed an ambitious plan to invest 12.88 billion euros in overhauling its terminals over the 2027-2031 period. This announcement underscores the pressing need to expand Madrid and Barcelona airports, which are reaching their capacity limits.
According to Chief Executive Maurici Lucena, this new phase of investment is crucial as both major airports are heavily congested. Lucena emphasized the urgency of alleviating pressure on these vital transport hubs to maintain their operational efficiency and accommodate future growth.
Aena, the world leader in passenger volume, had previously allocated 3.54 billion euros for a four-year period, signaling a significant escalation in their development strategy. This investment aims to ensure that Spain's leading airports continue to support economic and tourist activity effectively.
