On Tuesday, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, affirmed that the International Solar Alliance (ISA) is transitioning from ambitious goals to concrete actions. Speaking at the 8th ISA Assembly in New Delhi, Joshi highlighted ISA's shift toward practical implementation, aiming at tangible results in the renewable energy sector.
One of the core initiatives discussed was the solar facility managed by Africa50, which is pivotal in mobilizing funds for distributed solar projects across ISA member countries. Joshi also pointed to the STAR-C Network's efforts in driving digitization and artificial intelligence, creating a 'Silicon Valley of solar' in the global south. The minister stressed that this year's assembly is more focused on accelerated implementation.
ISA Director General Ashish Khanna also shared plans for launching the Africa Solar Facility next year, alongside the India AI Impact Summit. Furthermore, a new program on regional interconnection is set to reduce reliance on battery storage. France's announcement of a €150,000 contribution in 2025 aims to bolster Africa's solar ambitions.
