India's Bullet Train: A Leap Towards the Future
India's first bullet train will begin its inaugural run between Surat and Vapi in August 2027, covering 100 km. Initially, the plan was a 50 km stretch to Billimora. The high-speed corridor will eventually link Ahmedabad and Mumbai in under 2.5 hours. The project, delayed due to land acquisition challenges, now targets full operation by 2029.

India's ambitious bullet train project will see its first execution in August 2027, covering the 100 km distance between Surat and Vapi, according to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The initial plan was a 50 km stretch to Billimore.
The high-speed rail corridor is set to span 508 km between Sabarmati and Mumbai, promising travel at 320 kmph and a swift journey of 2 hours and 17 minutes. The foundation stone was laid in 2017, but land acquisition and other hurdles delayed its completion.
While the inaugural run is confirmed, clarity on the train type is lacking. A Siemens-led consortium won the signalling system contract, though it may not support the Japanese Shinkansen bullet train. Bharat Earth Movers Limited is working on a local high-speed train prototype.
