Bokaro Steel Plant's First Chequered Plate Roll: A Milestone in Steel Manufacturing
SAIL's Bokaro Steel Plant successfully completed its first chequered plate rolling operation, marking a notable expansion in its production portfolio. The in-house operation involved meticulous planning and technical expertise. The plant aims to significantly capture the market by 2026 with enhanced production capabilities and financial advantages.
SAIL's Bokaro Steel Plant has achieved a significant milestone by successfully completing its inaugural chequered plate rolling operation on Tuesday. The success showcases the plant's growing technical competence and operational readiness, setting a new benchmark in steel manufacturing.
The Bokaro team managed to roll 12 chequered plate coils of varying dimensions, entirely in-house, utilizing meticulous planning and precise technical execution. This achievement signifies a major expansion in the plant's production capabilities, with the facility aiming to capture a substantial market share by producing 30,000 tonnes monthly, in addition to its standard HR coil orders.
The financial prospects also appear promising, as chequered plates offer higher net sales realisation than HR coils. Bokaro Steel Plant is undergoing essential upgrades, including procuring special rolls and enhancing automation systems, targeting full-scale production by January 2026. Historically, SAIL's Rourkela Plant produced chequered plates, but Bokaro has now demonstrated both technical and commercial viability for this product.
