The Indian government is taking significant steps to counter the effects of US tariffs on its exports. On Tuesday, the Commerce and Industry Ministry announced a strategic approach focusing on intensive dealings with the US for a potential bilateral trade agreement.
Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Jitin Prasada, revealed that these initiatives aim to bolster diversification and fortify India's trade alliances. Efforts include immediate relief through the Reserve Bank's trade measures and a Credit Guarantee Scheme for Exporters.
Simultaneously, the government is negotiating Free Trade Agreements with the EU, Peru, Chile, New Zealand, and Oman. In the e-commerce domain, agentic shopping, powered by AI, is transforming digital commerce, prompting government actions to ensure MSMEs remain integral to this evolving space.
