Delhi's telecommunication sector is undergoing a significant transformation, according to data from the city's Department of Economics and Statistics. As of 2025, the capital boasts over six crore telephone connections, with the average resident utilizing at least two mobile phones.
The data reveals an intriguing dynamic: while wireless connections largely plateaued, wireline services experienced a notable surge. Between 2018 and 2025, wireline subscribers multiplied from 31.9 lakh to an impressive 47.1 lakh, signaling a growing preference for stable connections in an otherwise wireless-dominated market.
The consistent increase of landline usage contrasts sharply with the fluctuating fortunes of wireless connections, which reached their zenith at 5.67 crore in 2024 before marginally decreasing the following year. This unusual shift underlines the evolving telephone usage trend in the capital, suggesting a broader transformation in user preference towards more reliable communication methods.
