The IT sector in West Bengal is set to expand dramatically, with an impressive Rs 30,000 crore investment in the state's flagship silicon valley project. IT Secretary Shubhanjan Das announced on Friday that this initiative marks the state's bold stride into domains like artificial intelligence, data centers, and global capability centers.

At an ASSOCHAM-STPI event, Das highlighted the project's rapid progress, stating it would create at least 7,500 jobs. He noted the allotment of land to 41 companies, with constructions moving at a fast pace. This project is pivotal to West Bengal's long-term digital strategy, broadening its tech influence across the state.

The state's growth in IT is not confined to Kolkata; it includes Siliguri and Durgapur as well. With 32 government and over 60 private IT parks, West Bengal plays host to 2,800 IT companies, providing employment to over two lakh individuals. The state's advancements in computing rank it sixth nationally in data center capacity, with 11 private centers operational.
