Delhi has emerged as a frontrunner in electric vehicle adoption, ranking third among states and Union territories with an 11.6% penetration rate in the financial year 2024-25, a recent study reveals. According to the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), Chandigarh tops the list with a 12.1% rate, while Goa follows at 11.9%.

Nationally, electric vehicle penetration stands at 7.49%, but significant disparities exist across regions, influenced by local incentives and policy goals. The national capital, Delhi, recorded 83,423 EVs over the financial year, highlighting its leadership in both adoption rates and total numbers across varied segments, including two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and public transport.

Electric buses constitute a major part of Delhi's transition, with nearly 40% of buses operating electrically—one of the highest figures nationally. The study relies on data from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways' Vahan portal and assessments from CEEW.
