Retailers in Delhi are experiencing a dramatic increase in the sale of induction cooktops, prompted by growing concerns over LPG shortages. Reports indicate a 75 to 80 percent surge in purchases, as customers seek electric alternatives such as infrared stoves and compatible utensils to substitute traditional LPG stoves.
Amit Gupta, proprietor of Effects Kitchens and Hardware at Connaught Place, noted a substantial spike in both online and offline demand. Since the previous day, his store has received over 200 walk-in customers, while an additional 250 to 300 clients have contacted him via phone. The demand is overwhelming the shop's inventory, propelling them to source additional stock continuously.
Restaurants are also feeling the pinch, with many heavily reliant on LPG supplies. Manpreet Singh from the National Restaurant Association of India conveyed that some establishments are switching to electric methods, though menu adjustments are necessary. The shift is driven by difficulty accessing LPG, leading even smaller eateries to consider alternative fuels like coal or wood.
