In a sharp critique of the ruling BJP, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Friday condemned the recent steep hike in commercial LPG cylinder prices, stating it will inflate food costs for everyday consumers.

The price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder, essential for hotels and restaurants, witnessed an unprecedented rise of Rs 993, marking the third straight monthly increase. This surge is attributed to escalating global energy prices tied to the ongoing West Asia conflict, with the current price in Delhi reaching Rs 3,071.5.

While domestic LPG prices remain steady, Yadav's remarks were infused with sarcasm, questioning the BJP's motives behind not rounding the increase to a full Rs 1,000. He also suggested that a censure motion against the government for inflation and unemployment is long overdue.
