Uber has announced plans to introduce London's first robotaxis, powered by AI technology from British start-up Wayve, as soon as regulatory approvals are secured. The launch is expected in the coming months.

Self-driving vehicles are a major strategic focus for Uber, which has teamed up with over 30 global companies to develop autonomous freight, delivery, and taxi services. In collaboration with Wayve, the London taxi services will operate like regular Uber options, but the cars will be guided by AI rather than human drivers.

Wayve’s Kaity Fischer mentions that this marks the UK's first opportunity for the public to hail autonomous vehicles. A trained operator will oversee the system from the driver’s seat initially, with plans to eventually transition to fully driverless operations.
