In a press conference, Sheriff Jud Smith reported that deputies swiftly responded to the scene upon receiving word of an active shooter around 10:20 a.m. The deputy on-scene confronted the gunman, who surrendered immediately. The motives behind the shooting remain unclear at this time.
Images broadcast by local TV stations showed anxious parents lining up outside the school, waiting to reunite with their children.
