West Bengal Honours Outstanding Students from Marginalized Communities

Students received Rs 5,000 cash awards. The event introduced government initiatives like the Yogyashree scheme, offering free coaching for competitive exams.

The West Bengal Backward Classes Welfare Department celebrated academic excellence by honoring ten students from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes residing in Kolkata district. These exceptional scholars, who surpassed the 90% mark in various board examinations, were awarded Rs 5,000 each as a token of recognition for their hard work and dedication.

The felicitation ceremony, which took place on the eve of Independence Day, also served as a platform to inform students and their parents about a range of government schemes and initiatives designed to support their educational journey. Among the highlighted programs was the state's Yogyashree scheme.

The Yogyashree scheme is a significant initiative offering free coaching for competitive entrance examinations, such as NEET, JEE, and WBJEE, among others. The program aims to increase access for marginalized students to higher education opportunities, thus bridging the educational gap between different societal sections.
