The Delhi government is taking steps to ensure school meals are more nutritious by revamping the mid-day meal menu for this academic year. The updated menu, announced on Tuesday, includes millet-based dishes.
The Directorate of Education (DoE) has rolled out a six-day rotating menu featuring items like ragi and wheat flour halwa with masala chana, and seasonal millet-based daliya. Stringent food safety measures follow reports of meal contamination incidents in the past.
Officials underscore the sensitivity of the mid-day meal scheme concerning children's health, maintaining the right to terminate agreements upon contamination reports. Millet-rich dishes are part of efforts to improve meal nutrition, accompanied by regular wheat and rice-based options.
