In a groundbreaking effort to combat period poverty, sanitary pad dispensers and incinerators have been installed in two schools in Bihar's Begusarai district. This is a part of the 'Sangini' initiative, spearheaded by the non-profit organization NOBA GSR in collaboration with the Press Trust of India (PTI).
The initiative aims to transform a model district for menstrual hygiene, ensuring that female students can continue their education uninterrupted during their menstrual cycles. So far, over 2 lakh girls across India have benefited from this effort.
With 12 machines already installed in Begusarai and more than 800 nationwide, the project underscores the link between hygiene and education. By addressing these needs, NOBA GSR hopes to bolster the health and self-confidence of girls in rural schools.
