In a move to better reflect Indian cultural values and heritage, Rashtrapati Bhavan has renamed its iconic 'Durbar Hall' and 'Ashok Hall' to 'Ganatantra Mandap' and 'Ashok Mandap', respectively.
The Rashtrapati Bhavan, serving as the office and residence of the president of India, is a significant symbol of the nation's heritage. Efforts continue to make it more accessible and resonant with Indian cultural values, according to a statement from the President's Secretariat.
'Durbar Hall', known for hosting important ceremonies such as the presentation of national awards, is now renamed 'Ganatantra Mandap', signifying the deep roots of the concept of 'Ganatantra' or republic in Indian society. 'Ashok Hall' has been renamed 'Ashok Mandap', bringing linguistic uniformity and maintaining the key values associated with the word 'Ashok', reflective of Indian religious traditions and arts.
