Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh unveiled a groundbreaking publication aimed at transforming the handloom industry with a focus on sustainability. The book features methodologies for measuring and reducing carbon footprints, based on detailed case studies spanning a variety of textile products.

This initiative could significantly boost the export of eco-friendly handloom products from India. Collaboratively authored by the Development Commissioner for Handlooms and IIT Delhi, the book maps the carbon footprint of 11 handloom products including sarees and shawls.

The effort aligns with 10 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations. The book's methodologies are expected to be pivotal in promoting carbon trading and empowering artisans with the potential to access better markets and higher revenue.
