After eight long years of silence, Akshay Sharma, an eight-year-old from a village in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district, has found his voice again. This remarkable transformation was made possible by the dedication of an Army doctor serving in the area.
Akshay, born with a cleft lip and palate, had undergone surgery at the age of three, but his struggle to speak continued due to a lack of accessibility to further treatment for his family. His parents had nearly lost hope of hearing his voice.
Captain Saurabh Salunkhe, stationed in the region, stepped in to change the narrative. Realizing the potential for improvement through speech therapy, Salunkhe personally trained Akshay, dedicating hours from his duty time daily. This compassionate act brought Akshay's voice back, leaving his family overwhelmed with joy and showing the Army's profound impact on transforming lives beyond the battlefield.
