In a significant development into the untimely demise of Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, the Assam Police's Special Investigation Team (SIT) and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) are set for discussions with Singapore authorities. A delegation led by Special DGP (CID) Munna Prasad Gupta arrived in Singapore on Monday, October 20, to follow up on the ongoing investigation. The team plans to engage with the Singapore Police Force officials to further probe the incident.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that SIT Chief Munna Prasad Gupta would brief the media upon the team's return from Singapore. The SIT/CID has so far apprehended seven individuals in connection with the case, including main event organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta, Garg's manager Siddharth Sharma, and suspended APS officer and cousin Sandipan Garg, among others.
Judicial orders have placed the accused in custody, with five jailed in Baksa and two in Haflong. The SIT anticipates submitting the case's chargesheet by November. Meanwhile, the Singapore Police Force maintains no suspicion of foul play concerning Garg's death, which reportedly occurred during a swim before his performance at the Northeast India Festival. Authorities urge the public against disseminating speculative information about the tragic event.
