A massive Bhagavad Gita recital at Kolkata's Brigade Parade Ground drew hundreds of thousands of devotees, including saffron-clad monks and notable BJP leaders, creating a spectacle of religious fervor on Sunday.
Organizers highlighted the event's goal of fostering Hindu unity amid state demographic changes, with BJP leaders emphasizing the importance of such gatherings in preserving Bengali Hindu interests and preventing them from becoming second-class citizens. However, the program drew criticism from Trinamool Congress (TMC) officials for its political undertones.
This spiritual congregation coincided with warning calls from Governor CV Ananda Bose about a need to curb religious arrogance amid regional tensions. Amid heightened political rhetoric, a counter-rally featuring a Quran recital is set to continue these religious showcases in Murshidabad next February.
