Mizoram is gearing up for a transformative phase in its tourism sector, with an ambitious Rs 650 crore investment aimed at enhancing infrastructure and attracting global travelers. State minister Lalnghinglova Hmar detailed these plans, revealing projects like eco-resorts, ropeways, and heritage centers under various schemes.
Adding to its tourism allure, Mizoram will host the second international half-marathon in Aizawl, slated for February 14, 2026. Expecting 5,000 national and international participants, the event bolsters Mizoram's reputation on India's sports tourism map. The state is leveraging its natural and cultural richness to establish a resilient visitor economy.
Hmar highlighted the extensive role of community involvement through initiatives like the Bana Kaih Scheme, fostering tourism entrepreneurship spanning homestays to travel operations. New infrastructure, such as the significant Bairabi–Sairang railway line, has already improved accessibility, marking a 145.54% uptick in tourist arrivals. Mizoram aims to present itself as a premium destination, where nature and culture converge, fueling economic development.
