Czech-Chinese Relations: Reviving Friendship Amid Taiwan Tensions
China seeks to strengthen ties with the Czech Republic, despite tensions over its relationship with Taiwan. Both nations aim to enhance cooperation in trade and tourism, while China urges adherence to the One-China principle. Past events, like Czech leaders meeting the Dalai Lama, have strained relations.
China is showing a willingness to bolster relations with the Czech Republic, as communicated by Foreign Minister Wang Yi to his Czech counterpart, Petr Macinka, according to state broadcaster CCTV.
Despite the Czech Republic's formal recognition of Beijing over Taiwan, recent interactions have strengthened with Taiwan, noted for its semiconductor industry, alongside growing investments. Wang emphasized the need to fortify dialogue and cooperation to build political trust and expand practical cooperation in sectors like economy, trade, and tourism.
However, ties have been under strain due to the Czech Republic's engagements with Taiwan and Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama. China criticized these actions as interference in its internal affairs, urging adherence to the One-China principle.
