National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah on Wednesday criticized the central government for the continuous attacks in Jammu following the deaths of four Indian Army soldiers, including an officer, during a clash with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district. Abdullah contested the government's claims that militancy is almost over in the region, suggesting the situation is far from improving.
'In the last year, a series of continuous attacks have started in Jammu. There is hardly any area in Jammu that is free from militancy... What is the government doing? They have been claiming that the militancy is on its last legs. But we don't see that happening,' Abdullah said. He further criticized the absence of clear steps from the government to stop the killings and stressed the need for accountability in managing the security situation.
Four Indian Army soldiers, including an officer, were killed during an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district on Tuesday. The encounter, which took place in the Desa Forest area, claimed the lives of Captain Brijesh Thapa, Naik D Rajesh, Sepoy Bijendra, and Sepoy Ajay.
Earlier, BJP MP Raju Bista and former Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla paid tribute to Captain Brijesh Thapa at Bengdubi Military Station in Siliguri, Darjeeling. Bista honored Thapa's sacrifice, stating, 'On behalf of the countrymen, I pay tribute to the brave martyr Brijesh Thapa. This is a very sad incident. At the age of just 27, he has made the supreme sacrifice.'
Meanwhile, Shringla expressed sorrow over the incident and praised the sacrifice made by the Gorkha community. 'It is a very sad incident that our youth from Darjeeling, who belongs to the Gorkha community, has lost his life in the service of the country,' Shringla said, promising support for Thapa's family through the Darjeeling Welfare Society.
