The Centre's ambitious drone farming scheme has found only one adopter in Goa, the state government informed the legislative assembly.

In a written response tabled on Friday, State Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik revealed that only Don Bosco Loutolim Society in Salcete taluka has utilized the subsidy program to buy a drone for farming.

'The Goa government is actively promoting drone technology in agriculture through various initiatives to enhance efficiency and sustainability,' said Naik. The Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanisation (SMAM) scheme provides financial assistance of up to 40% of the base price of drones, offering substantial subsidies to Goan farmers.

Naik highlighted the advantages of drone farming, including reduced health risks from pesticide handling and a decrease in operational costs and time.

'Farmers operate drones remotely, significantly reducing exposure to fertilizers and pesticides, thereby minimizing associated health risks,' he added.
