The Jammu and Kashmir administration has sanctioned a Rs 400 crore initiative to equip government buildings with grid-tier rooftop solar power systems. The Administrative Council, led by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, endorsed this comprehensive solarization project.
The endeavor, which includes an aggregate capacity of 70 MW in Capex mode and 200 MW in RESCO mode, will be executed by the Jammu & Kashmir Energy Development Agency (JKEDA). The project will leverage the extensive rooftop spaces of government buildings to create solar energy.
Completion is targeted by December 2025, with the solar systems being maintained for five years free of cost. This initiative is forecasted to cut carbon emissions by 8.3 million tons over 25 years and generate more than 10,800 jobs, further fueling economic development in the region.
