PM Modi Conducts Inspection of Landslide-Affected Wayanad
Prime Minister Narendra Modi carried out an aerial survey of Wayanad's landslide-affected areas, visiting on-ground and relief sites to oversee rehabilitation efforts. CM Pinarayi Vijayan accompanied him. The state has requested the disaster be declared a national calamity. Relief measures, including financial assistance, have been implemented.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi undertook an aerial survey of the landslide-affected areas in Wayanad on Saturday, followed by a physical visit to review relief and rehabilitation efforts. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan joined the Prime Minister in the aerial survey, observing the origin and the worst affected zones including Punchirimattam, Mundakkai, and Chooralmala.
During his visit, PM Modi inspected the disaster's point of origin, the Iruvazhinji River, and received a briefing from rescue teams regarding the ongoing evacuation operations. He also examined the rehabilitation initiatives to ensure effective support for those affected.
Subsequently, the Prime Minister visited a relief camp and hospital to meet and interact with victims and survivors. A review meeting followed, in which detailed briefings on the incident and relief actions were presented. The massive landslides in Chooralmala and Mundakkai have resulted in 226 recovered bodies and 403 body parts. The state government has requested the central government to declare it a national disaster.
To aid affected families, the Kerala state government announced immediate assistance measures, including a daily allowance of Rs. 300 for up to two members per family for 30 days, and Rs. 10,000 financial aid for families in relief camps. For families with bedridden or hospitalized patients, the allowance extends to three members.
