Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers, under the leadership of Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva, staged a protest outside the Department of Social Welfare office in Lajpat Nagar on Friday. The demonstration targeted the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government's failure to provide old age and widow pensions.
Sachdeva accused the Kejriwal government of neglecting its basic responsibilities, stating that the delayed pensions were a result of political motives. He criticized the administration for continuing other expenditures while halting pensions for the last five months. Sachdeva highlighted that the scheme, introduced by late former Chief Minister Madan Lal Khurana, is essential for the elderly who rely on it for purchasing medicines.
Following BJP's protest, AAP Minister Atishi Marlena announced the release of pensions, which BJP hailed as a victory. Other BJP leaders, including State General Secretary MP Shri Yogendra Chandolia and Leader of the Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta, condemned the delay and demanded immediate action. They pledged to continue their protests until all pending pensions are released.
