Pune Police Book Over 300 for Unauthorized Protest After Controversial Remarks

The Pune City Police have booked more than 300 individuals for assembling illegally and conducting a protest without permission. The protest was in response to remarks made by Ramgiri Maharaj against Islam. Multiple cases have also been registered against him in Mumbai.

Pune City Police on Sunday filed charges against over 300 individuals for illegally assembling, conducting a protest march without prior permission, and raising objectionable slogans. The protest, held in front of the Pune Collector's office, was said to be a reaction to controversial remarks by Ramgiri Maharaj against Islam, according to officials.

The march took place on Friday, and the police registered cases under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Maharashtra Police Act at Bund Garden Police Station. Organized under the banner 'A Sarvdharm Sambhav Mahamorcha,' the protest was deemed unauthorized.

Earlier in the week, protests also erupted in Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior district against Mahant Ramgiri Maharaj for his contentious comments. Similar tensions were seen in Nashik, where he allegedly made derogatory remarks about Islam and Prophet Mohammed.

In Mumbai, multiple cases have been registered against Maharaj across three police stations for his inflammatory remarks. Hundreds from the Muslim community gathered at Wagle Police Station in Thane, demanding action against him.

Religious leaders from the Muslim community in Thane were present during the filing of the FIR against Maharaj. The police booked him under extensive sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, initiating an investigation. (ANI)
