Ramban Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kulbir Singh confirmed on Thursday that stringent security arrangements are in place for the Assembly elections in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking with ANI about the preparations, SSP Singh stated, 'Overall situation in the Ramban district is very good. During the parliamentary elections, the situation was equally good, and people voted in large numbers. We hope the trend continues this time around as well. Considering the incidents that happened in Doda, our security arrangements are in place and our deployments are adequate.'
He also mentioned steps taken to address drug issues during the polls, 'Drug use will also come into play. We have instructed our officers to deal with the issue. We have a zero-tolerance policy towards drugs... We have a clear message for the consumers and peddlers of drugs that they will be behind bars.'
'We are also monitoring social media for any misinformation that can be propagated using the medium,' he added. Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party's candidate for the Nowshera Assembly constituency, Ravinder Raina, held a roadshow and filed his nomination earlier on Thursday. 'There is a strong wave of BJP in the entire J&K. Despite being close to the international border, BJP workers in Nowshera gathered and carried out this roadshow with full zeal and enthusiasm. I hope that when the voting takes place here, the BJP government will be formed with a huge majority. BJP is moving towards a big victory in J&K,' he told ANI. Polling in Jammu and Kashmir will be conducted in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1, with vote counting scheduled for October 8.
