A devastating avalanche has hit Uttarakhand's Chamoli district, trapping 47 workers involved in road construction under heavy snow. The workers, associated with the Border Roads Organisation, were operating near Mana village in Badrinath.
Rescue efforts are being led by personnel from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and the Indian Army. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that ten workers have been saved and are currently in critical condition at a nearby army camp. Ongoing operations are hindered by severe snowfall.
The Border Roads Organisation, integral to India's military infrastructure, is facing challenges in their rescue mission, as roads are difficult to navigate. Avalanche alerts were previously issued, advising caution and limiting movement to safe routes. Dhami has assured continuous efforts for the safe recovery of the remaining workers.
