The Lok Sabha witnessed Congress MP Manickam Tagore filing an adjournment motion to address voter list discrepancies observed after the 2024 elections. Tagore highlighted potential integrity issues, especially in Maharashtra and Haryana, where rapid increases in voter registrations raised alarms.
Tagore's motion stresses the need to maintain electoral system credibility, linking these discrepancies to possible election process undermining. Maharashtra reportedly added 3.9 million new voter names post-elections, far exceeding previous records. Haryana faced identical EPIC numbers, suggesting duplications.
Tagore, supported by opposition leaders including Rahul Gandhi, calls for thorough investigations to ensure future electoral integrity. Concurrently, AAP's Malvinder Singh Kang submitted a motion concerning drone-borne drug smugglings across Punjab-Pakistan borders, risking youth wellbeing. Kang cites Punjab's CM Bhagwant Mann's security concerns amidst ongoing anti-drug campaigns.
Moreover, Congress MP Manish Tewari questioned tariff reductions influenced by the U.S., particularly affecting agriculture and electric vehicles. Tewari urges government transparency in trade negotiations to safeguard India's economic and strategic autonomy.
