In a significant development, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has agreed to analyze airfare trends using aggregated data provided by the Federation of Indian Airlines (FIA). This comes after initial resistance from airlines, which raised concerns over confidentiality and market competitiveness.
DGCA's decision follows public complaints about high ticket prices, particularly during peak travel seasons like the Mahakumbh. Tasked with analyzing the data, Tata Consultancy Services aims to assess pricing trends, as per a senior DGCA official.
The FIA, representing Air India, IndiGo, and SpiceJet, has voiced concerns about data handling risks and emphasizes the need for pricing flexibility to accommodate market demands and maintain economic viability.
