Despite the ambitious goals of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme, six Indian states, including Delhi, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala, have yet to install a single smart electricity meter, according to recent data revealed in Parliament.

The government initially launched the RDSS with a substantial investment of Rs 3,03,758 crore to enhance distribution utilities' operational efficiencies and financial sustainability. However, as of June 30, states like Kerala and Punjab show no progress under this initiative intended to modernize power distribution by 2028.

Overall, 3.46 crore meters have been installed across various states, significantly behind the 20.33 crore meters sanctioned under the RDSS. While states like Maharashtra have managed to make substantial progress with 41.82 lakh meters installed, others, like Mizoram, report minimal implementation.
