IATA Partners with Chooose to Expand Access to CO2 Emissions Data
IATA CO2 Connect is widely regarded as the most accurate carbon emissions calculator in the aviation sector.
In a major step toward enhancing transparency and supporting sustainability efforts in the aviation sector, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) has signed a strategic agreement with climate tech company Chooose to expand market access to IATA CO2 Connect emissions data. This collaboration will enable airlines using Chooose’s platform to provide travelers—both corporate and individual—with flight-specific carbon emissions estimates based on real-world airline operational data.
The integration is a significant development in the industry’s push for standardized, credible, and actionable emissions reporting, particularly in light of rising consumer and corporate demand for environmental accountability in air travel.
Empowering Travelers with Trusted Emissions Data
According to an IATA study conducted in April 2025, nearly 40% of travelers—a figure that rises significantly among business travelers—regularly review the carbon emissions of their flights before booking. This data underscores a clear market expectation for transparency and credibility in emissions reporting.
Through this partnership, Chooose’s network of over 30 global airline partners can now integrate IATA CO2 Connect emissions data into their Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) programs, carbon calculators, and customer-facing applications. The agreement ensures that customers receive emissions data that is:
-
Based on actual aircraft performance
-
Continuously updated with inputs from over 70 airlines
-
Aligned with IATA Recommended Practice 1726 (RP 1726)
-
Compliant with ISO 14083, the global standard for greenhouse gas accounting in transport chains
“For years, Chooose has supported airlines, cargo operators, and travel companies with flexible access to emissions estimates to enable their SAF programs and carbon tools,” said Joseph Beaudin, CEO of Chooose. “The addition of IATA CO2 Connect gives our partners access to an IATA dataset that continues to improve with real-time data from airline operations and SAF usage.”
Setting a New Standard in Travel Emissions Reporting
IATA CO2 Connect is widely regarded as the most accurate carbon emissions calculator in the aviation sector. Unlike generic carbon estimators that rely on assumptions or averages, IATA CO2 Connect uses verified operational data—including aircraft type, fuel burn, load factors, seating configurations, and cargo weight—reported directly by airlines. This makes it uniquely capable of delivering flight-specific emissions estimates with high precision.
“IATA CO2 Connect is the only carbon calculator for travel emissions based on real airline operational data,” noted Frédéric Léger, IATA’s Senior Vice President for Commercial Products & Services. “Our goal is to make this data as widely available as possible, especially for those managing travel programs. Working with Chooose is a key part of that strategy.”
The calculator also accounts for emissions reductions associated with SAF use, a growing focus for the aviation industry’s decarbonization agenda.
Supporting Airline Decarbonization and Corporate Accountability
Chooose has long been a partner to aviation stakeholders seeking to navigate the energy transition. Through tools for SAF tracking, carbon removal credits, and environmental reporting, the company enables airlines to:
-
Report emissions accurately
-
Offer carbon transparency to passengers
-
Design loyalty programs around sustainability
-
Support SAF procurement with traceable metrics
As a member of the IATA Strategic Partnerships Program, Chooose contributes to industry-wide decarbonization efforts and plays an active role in improving environmental standards within aviation.
The IATA-Chooose partnership comes at a time when environmental, social, and governance (ESG) priorities are central to aviation policy and corporate travel decisions. With increasing scrutiny from regulators, investors, and passengers alike, standardized and reliable emissions reporting is no longer optional—it’s a strategic imperative.
Looking Ahead: Toward a Transparent and Sustainable Aviation Industry
This new integration between IATA and Chooose represents a milestone in digital climate tools for aviation, with the potential to harmonize emissions reporting across the sector. It ensures that sustainability efforts are not only ambitious but also quantifiable and credible, enabling more informed choices by both corporations and consumers.
As the aviation industry pushes toward its net-zero emissions goal by 2050, partnerships like this will be essential in building the infrastructure for a transparent, data-driven sustainability transition.
