NDA Chooses Maharashtra Governor as Vice Presidential Candidate

The Telangana unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expressed enthusiasm regarding the announcement that Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan will be the National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) candidate for Vice President. The BJP's state president, N Ramachander Rao, in a statement, commended Radhakrishnan's nomination, emphasizing his extensive experience that is expected to earn widespread appreciation.
Rao further acknowledged Radhakrishnan's lifelong dedication to public service, expressing gratitude to the BJP's national leadership, NDA partners, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the decision. He affirmed that with the backing of NDA partners, Radhakrishnan's victory in the Vice Presidential elections appears assured.
Earlier today, the Janata Dal (United) and the Telugu Desam Party extended their formal support to Radhakrishnan's candidature. With significant alliance partners aligned behind one candidate, the opposition INDIA bloc is preparing to convene and deliberate over proposing their contender. JD(U) President and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also endorsed Radhakrishnan on social media.
The NDA's decision to select Maharashtra Governor Radhakrishnan, announced by BJP National President JP Nadda following the party's Parliamentary Board meeting, comes after the Vice Presidential seat was vacated by Jagdeep Dhankhar's resignation due to health issues. The election, to be conducted on September 9, will adhere to the constitutional provisions governing the Vice Presidency.
The Election Commission has been directed to notify the Vice Presidential polls in line with the Presidential and Vice-Presidential Elections Act. Under Article 66(1) of the Indian Constitution, the Vice President will be elected through a proportional representation system and secret ballot voting.
