Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav declared that Govardhan Puja will be celebrated throughout the state, underscoring the significance of cow worship. Speaking to ANI, Yadav emphasized that cows are sacred and Govardhan Puja, which can be celebrated at any time, is a divine blessing. The state, with its deep agricultural roots, reveres these traditions.
The Chief Minister elaborated on the state government's commitment to enhancing animal husbandry as a means to improve milk production and secure financial stability for farmers. By embracing Govardhan Puja statewide, the government seeks to support the agricultural community. The festival, occurring after Diwali, commemorates Lord Krishna's legendary act of lifting Govardhana Hill to shield Vrindavana's residents from Indra's fury.
During this celebration, devotees prepare diverse dishes using grains, ghee, and milk, fashioning the offerings into a small hill symbolically to present to the Lord. Known also as Annakuta Festival, it includes the adorning and worshiping of cows and the deity of Sri Krishna depicted as Giridhari, holding the lifted hill. The celebratory food, called prasadam, is then shared among attendees. (ANI)
