In a fiery statement on Monday, YSRCP head YS Jagan Mohan Reddy condemned the Andhra Pradesh government's alleged negligence, leading to a dramatic fall in banana prices to just fifty paise per kilogram, cheaper than everyday items like a matchbox or a biscuit.
Reddy termed the situation as "cruel" to farmers, who have invested significant resources and effort into their crops, only to face financial loss. He accused the ruling TDP-led NDA government of failing to provide promised support measures such as free crop insurance and input subsidies.
Reddy highlighted his party's past governance, citing stabilized banana prices and infrastructural support like cold storages and special transport to prevent distress sales. He warned that the current scenario jeopardizes the dignity and viability of agricultural work, urging serious reflection on the value of farmers' labor.
