Border Tensions Escalate Between Pakistan and Afghanistan
Heavy fire was exchanged between Pakistan and Afghanistan along their border amid increased tension following unsuccessful peace talks earlier this week. Both sides exchanged accusations of unprovoked attacks. The incident followed a broader series of talks to ease tensions and ensure regional security.
Pakistan and Afghanistan engaged in intense border clashes on Friday night, escalating already high tensions between the two nations following the collapse of peace negotiations earlier in the week.
No casualties were reported immediately. Afghan Taliban representative Zabihullah Mujahid claimed that Pakistani forces initiated hostilities in Kandahar's Spin Boldak district. Meanwhile, Pakistan's Prime Minister's spokesperson accused Afghan forces of launching unprovoked fire across the Chaman border.
The exchange occurred just days after a recent round of peace talks, which failed to yield substantial results. Conducted in Saudi Arabia, these discussions are part of continuous efforts by regional powers to de-escalate border violence that has persisted since October, causing multiple casualties and straining relations.
