As vote counting continues for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's 227 wards, tensions soared after Maharashtra Minister Sanjay Shirsat accused the police of injuring Shiv Sena workers in a lathi charge at the Government Engineering College in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The altercation reportedly erupted over the controversial entry of party workers into the counting centre.
In a media briefing at the venue, Minister Shirsat demanded accountability from the police, alleging a misuse of authority and promising to file a complaint. He described the incident as an inappropriate show of force, stating that nearly 100 policemen injured several party members.
While the minister condemned the police action, law enforcement cited Election Commission mandates as justification for securing the area. Police Commissioner Praveen Pawar assured an investigation led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, promising fair consideration of all perspectives.
