The Rouse Avenue Court has reserved its verdict on the Enforcement Directorate's petition to confiscate assets belonging to arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari, who was declared a fugitive economic offender last year. A special CBI judge scheduled the order announcement for May 5, 2026, following a hearing where senior advocate Maninder Singh opposed the ED's claims.

The hearing witnessed heated arguments between Singh, representing Bhandari, and the ED's counsel, comprising Special Counsel Zoheb Hossain and Special Public Prosecutor N K Matta. The ED stressed that seizure of Bhandari's assets, including properties in India and abroad, is necessary to deter individuals from evading legal accountability. Despite Bhandari's appeal, the High Court upheld the fugitive status declaration made on July 12, 2025.

The case's complexities extend beyond Indian borders, with significant foreign assets in question. Bhandari's defense rests on a London High Court ruling, which declined his extradition citing safety concerns. Nonetheless, the ED maintains that his asset acquisition exceeds ₹100 crore, justifying their confiscation move under the Fugitive Economic Offenders Act.
