Customs authorities at Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport scored a significant bust on Wednesday, intercepting three passengers arriving from Dubai and seizing more than 1.13 lakh cigarette sticks of foreign origin.

Officials were prompted to act on suspicious X-ray images of checked luggage, which upon detailed examination, contained a staggering consignment of cigarettes. These included 56,000 sticks of the 'Mond' brand and 57,200 of the 'Gudang Garam' brand, all concealed within 566 boxes.

Seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962, this massive cache has prompted a deeper investigation to trace the intended recipients of the smuggled goods, as the officials delve into unraveling the network operating behind this illicit trade.
