The West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Tuesday conducted a search at the residence of former Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata. This development follows the investigation into allegations of signature forgery involving several TMC legislators.
Last week, the CID visited the residence of TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee, demanding the original resolution copy sent to the West Bengal Assembly Speaker regarding party appointments. The five-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) is being led by a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) to ensure a meticulous probe into the forgery claims.
In May, 13 TMC MLAs provided statements to CID, some claiming their signatures were falsely replicated. Abhishek Banerjee was requested to appear with the original documents. Meanwhile, discrepancies were found in a meeting resolution book, with two MLAs alleging the forgery. A complaint has been lodged, and the investigation is ongoing.
