On Saturday evening, a fire erupted at a private nursing home in Cuttack, Odisha, officials reported.

Three fire tenders swiftly responded to contain the blaze, which started around 4.30 pm near the Purighat police station. Director-General of Fire Services Sudhanshu Sarangi confirmed that the fire was under control, although smoke continued to pose a challenge.

Sarangi explained that efforts were underway to mitigate the smoke using exhaust systems. Patients in the ICU, including 12 newborns needing NICU care, were relocated with coordination from the Chief Minister’s Office and the Health Department. Some patients were also moved to the state-run SCB Medical College and Hospital.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to another official.
