The Democratic Republic of Congo announced the end of its recent Ebola outbreak, marking 42 consecutive days without new infections. This declaration follows the country's use of an enhanced national surveillance system to contain the spread.
The outbreak, which was first identified in Congo's Kasai Province on September 4, resulted in 64 cases, of which 45 were fatal. The remaining 19 patients recovered, according to Congolese health officials.
This latest crisis was the 16th Ebola outbreak in the Central African nation since the virus was first identified in 1976. The last patient was discharged on October 19, and no new cases have been reported since September 25, allowing the World Health Organization to officially declare the end of the outbreak.
