Patna district has witnessed a surge in HIV-positive cases, with over 1,000 new instances recorded this year. The Bihar AIDS Control Society confirmed the alarming figures, naming unprotected sex and the use of infected needles as significant contributors to the rise.
Additional Project Director N K Gupta reported 1,200 cases in Patna, followed by 400 in East Champaran and 340 in West Champaran. These numbers bring the total to 7,923 in Patna alone. Despite the uptick, Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey refrained from commenting, delegating communication to the AIDS Control Society.
Data indicates 7,923 people are receiving ART in Patna, primarily at PMCH and RMRI. The government ensures free ARV medication through 32 centers, supporting 97,046 HIV-positive citizens. Financial aid is provided via schemes like the Bihar Centenary AIDS Patient Welfare Scheme.
