In response to a public health crisis in Indore, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is set to meet with victims of a severe outbreak of vomiting and diarrhoea linked to water contamination.
State Congress president Jitu Patwari has claimed that 24 people have succumbed to the contaminated water in the Bhagirathpura area, though the state government records a lower death toll of seven.
Gandhi's visit includes engagements at Bombay Hospital and with affected families. The Congress initially planned a conference to tackle the water pollution crisis with experts, but authorities denied permission.
